Can my ordinary become extraordinary?
I often think about this question in the context of relationships. Our lives are connected to others in many different ways; the Interactions we have, the things we do and say have an impact and carry weight, creating a ripple effect beyond ourselves.
I cross paths with many people daily as part of my job. Those 5 to 10 minutes of checking in are crucial for all the families I work with and I often think about the impact those interactions have in the lives of these people. I might never know but I like to think that the way I serve them carries a ripple effect in their lives, some more than others but I truly believe it with all my heart and I am grateful for it!
There was a time in which my attitude toward this repetitive routine was not the best and I often ended up weary and mortified about the task at hand. In turn became critical and frustrated. I didn't like it! I wanted more! That is when I discovered the power of being grateful in the midst of the commonality of the repetitive routine. I had to change my perspective, when I began to appreciate what I was doing and saw it as an opportunity to be a blessing unto others my whole world changed. It was no longer an ordinary meaningless task it became extraordinary and fun.
I noticed that I was embracing life in a different way and I was living the moment fully present choosing to engage to bring life and to positively impact those around me. I love this quote from christian author William Arthur Ward: "Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings” I think when we shift our focus and choose to be grateful for every opportunity life brings understanding that what our actions are powerful we can become extraordinary in our everyday life.
I encourage you today to think about a repetitive task or routine that is making you feel frustrated or weary and find a way to be grateful about it. Take it a step further and meditate on how can you shift your perspective to bring a positive change to it!
Key Bible Verse:
“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:13-16
Let’s choose to have a positive impact and bring life to those around us. What we do is significant! XOXO ~Barb
